Data Study Finds Top 21 Gambling Movies

While it might be easy to guess what the best action movies or comedies of all time might be, perhaps one genre which might keep a considerable amount of people thinking is gambling movies.

Even for the most ardent movie buff, even trying to come up with 10 movies based on gambling (either specifically or loosely), might pose a particular challenge, but to get 21 could well be near impossible.

However, following a comprehensive study by New Casino Sites into this genre you can now view the list here of the top 21 gambling movies of all time, based on data compiled from official sources to calculate an overall percentage for each one which in turn gave them a ranking.

Casino Royale scoops the crown

There are many 007 fans who believe that Casino Royale is the best James Bond movie of all time, due to its refreshing originality, so for this to rank first in the gambling movies list, maybe should not come as a surprise.

With Daniel Craig starring as James Bond in his first appearance, this also doubled as somewhat of a launchpad for his career, while he also more than did the debut justice. In addition to featuring most of the original Bond movie traits, Casino Royale had a subtle yet underlying theme throughout. That of course was poker, with the climax being a high stakes game of Texas Hold ‘Em which had potentially devastating consequences.

21 comes in at 21

You read that right. Featuring Kevin Spacey and based on a true story depicting a group of the best Stanford mathematics professors and students who set out to cheat Las Vegas casinos with card counting skills, this, perhaps surprisingly ranked last in the study with 51.50 percent.

This was also resounding, with 20th place Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas taking 63 percent and a full 19 percentage points behind 19th place Intacto.

Mr Lucky not quite having all the luck

There is no doubt about the fact that Mr Lucky ranking in second place was some achievement considering that the movie was released midway through the second world war in 1943.

While this is more of a romantic comedy, there is an underlying gambling element, while undoubtedly the main draw of the movie is Cary Grant, who played the lead role.

Impressively, this is a movie that has stood the test of time and as a result, perhaps deservedly ranks in second place only a full percentage point behind Casino Royale.

Hollywood stars represented

As well as Craig, Spacey, and Grant, each movie in the study was known for having at least one big name actor or actress in, while the same could also be said for directors.

In particular, this could be the case with the 1995 release, Casino, which ranked fifth in the study and had a cast of Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Sharon Stone as well as being directed by Martin Scorsese.

Then you have the likes of Ocean’s 11 with Matt Damon, The Hangover with Bradley Cooper or even Rounders which again starred Damon alongside John Malkovich. Casino Royale itself, in addition to Craig, boasted Eva Green and Judi Dench. Overall, it is fair to say that gambling movies tend to attract an all-star ensemble cast.
