LANCASHIRE CHILDREN’S HOSPICE HAS £27K DONATION FROM HOUSEBUILDER

Barratt and David Wilson Homes spread some joy at a children’s hospice in Chorley with a donation of over £27,000 to support its life-changing work.

The donation from the leading housebuilder was gifted to Derian House Children’s Hospice to support its work with children, young people and their families.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes raised over £54,000 for Derian House and Douglas Macmillan Hospice in Stoke-on-Trent from a charity gala ball and the Barratt Foundation.

Following the donation, Barratt Homes Sales Director, Michaela Lancaster, joined carers from Derian House and the Mayor of Chorley, Julia Berry, for a look at the facilities, which include a cinema, reflective gardens and a sensory room.

Barratt and David Wilson Homes’ Regional Managing Director, David Hesson, said: “Due to our strong presence in Lancashire, Derian House Children’s Hospice is a charity that’s close to the hearts of many of our employees.

“It’s a real privilege to have the opportunity to support the charities at the heart of the communities in which we build, and it’s been fantastic to learn more about the incredible services provided for young people and their families at the hospice.

“We’re grateful to have been offered a tour of Derian House, and we appreciate Julia Berry joining us to see how our donation will make a difference.”

Derian House provides respite and end-of-life care to more than 400 children and young people across the North West.

Its 24/7 services extend to the family of its patients from brothers, sisters and parents to grandparents.

Karen Edwards, Chief Executive at Derian House, said: “We are so grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for such a generous donation – and it was great to be able to show the team exactly what we do here at Derian House. The money will go towards making sure we can deliver the very best care to children and families across the North West.

“It will cost £6 million to run services at Derian House in 2023, and so we rely heavily on our supporters for 70p in every £1. We can’t thank Barratt and David Wilson Homes enough for their incredible generosity.”

Chorley Mayor, Julia Berry, added: “Derian House is an amazing hospice, with wonderful carers who do so much to help families at the most difficult time in their lives. It’s heartening to know that Derian House has touched those at Barratt and David Wilson Homes to fundraise and we hope the housebuilder continues to have a long-term relationship with good causes in our community.”

Derian House looks after children and young people right up until their 26th birthday, and offers palliative care, respite stays, day care, holidays and end-of-life support. It continues to offer transition support for young people up until their 28th birthday, in order to ensure they have a well-established network of support in their community.
