BARRATT BRINGS JOY TO CHILDREN’S HOSPICE WITH £27K DONATION

Adults and children with life limiting illnesses will benefit from support given to a Stoke-on-Trent hospice by local housebuilder, Barratt Homes.

The donation of more than £27k from Barratt Homes was gifted to Douglas Macmillan Hospice to enable it to expand its services for those face life-limiting illness, along with their families and carers.

The donation was made after staff at Barratt Homes, and its supply chain, held a Charity Gala Ball. The Barratt Foundation, which gives £5m a year to good causes in the community, also made a donation.

The total of over £54k was split between Douglas Macmillan Hospice and Derian House Children’s Hospice in Lancashire.

Following the donation, David Hesson, Regional Managing Director at Barratt Homes, joined Douglas Macmillan CEO, David Webster, for a tour of the hospice to see how the donation will make a difference.

David Hesson, Regional Managing Director at Barratt Homes, said: “Since we’ve started building new homes in Trentham, we’ve learned even more about the importance of the work of Douglas Macmillan Hospice, as it’s a sanctuary for people in Stoke-on-Trent and the wider Staffordshire community.

“It’s a real privilege to have the opportunity to support the charities at the heart of the communities in which we build, and it’s been fantastic to learn more about the incredible services provided for patients and their families at the hospice.

“We’re grateful to have been offered a tour of Douglas Macmillan Hospice, and we appreciate the chance to see how our donation will make a difference.”

After caring for adults across the area for almost 50 years, the hospice added care for children and young adults to its services in order to offer a broad spectrum of specialist palliative and end-of-life care for all ages.

Staff members at the hospice are committed to expanding and improving the services offered, and strive to deliver the very best quality of care to meet the ever-changing needs of the local community.
