Pupils at Newall Green Primary School in Manchester took part in reading and learning activities, thanks to a visit from volunteers at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in the city.
20 Amazon volunteers visited Newall Green Primary School to take part in reading and learning activities with the pupils. With help from the Amazon team, the pupils then used their imagination to create and design their own book character costumes.
Sam Wright, an employee at Amazon in Manchester visited the primary school, said:
“I loved getting involved with the pupils and seeing how much they enjoyed the activities. Supporting families in our community is something we care deeply about and it was great to do so in such a fun and hands-on way.”
Adam Pattenden, Deputy Headteacher from Newall Green Primary School, said:
“Thank you to the Amazon team for coming in and giving their time. The pupils had a wonderful day and loved taking part in all of the fun activities. The enthusiasm the volunteers brought into school was fantastic and the pupils had a great time.”
Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon co-founded the Multibank initiative with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to support families in need. ‘Brick-by-Brick’ Multibank opened in Wigan in 2023, with The Brick. The Multibank network has donated more than 12 million surplus goods to over 800,000 families across Greater Manchester, Scotland, Wales, London, Tees Valley and Birmingham. This year, the Multibank will send 1 million orders to families across the UK.
Amazon is also supporting the National Year of Reading, combining funding with real, on-the-ground impact. From AWS technology and nationwide logistics that distribute books to underserved communities, to Amazon Literacy Champions volunteering in local schools, we’re using our scale and expertise to help drive meaningful improvements in literacy across the UK.
Amazon has supported more than one million students across the UK with free STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good.
Amazon partners with Comic Relief and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people across the UK, and around the world.
