Strictly Come Dancing dreamer Andrew Garfield third favourite for Oscar win
Andrew Garfield is third favourite to win Best Actor at this year’s 94th Academy Awards, priced at 5-1.
The Spider-Man star is nominated for his role in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tick, Tick…Boom! which is based on the autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, creator of Rent.
This is Garfield’s second Oscar nomination, following up a nod for his performance in 2017’s Hacksaw Ridge. He described receiving the news as a ‘howl in my soul’.
Garfield, best known for The Amazing Spider-Man, recently pledged on The Graham Norton Show that he’s always wanted to go on Strictly Come Dancing, and will do it if he wins the Oscar.
UK bookmaker William Hill certainly think he’s in for a chance, placing him in third place at 5-1 to win the award.
Alongside Garfield in the top three tipped is Will Smith, nominated for his role as Serena and Venus Williams’ father in King Richard and is favourite to win at 1-3. This is the 53-year-old’s first Oscar nomination in 15 years.
Joining them in second place is long-touted Benedict Cumberbatch, priced at 3-1, for his performance in Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog. Cumberbatch has spoken of the extremes he went to for his role, including not washing and contracting nicotine poisoning.
