‘Save The Planet’ and ‘Celebrate Life’ is the message from the Club King Of The North, Dave Beer on second release from his debut album

Hot on the heels of ‘For The Beloved’, the first release on Jack Said What by Dave Beer & The Blessed which featured the legendary Robert Owens on vox and came with remixes by the equally legendary Todd Terry, comes this double-header.

This is the second release from Dave Beer & The Blessed in the lead-up to the release of the project’s debut album on the 4th of July.

First up, ‘Come Together’ is a low-slung glitchy groover, that features words by Sundiata Oba Mausi, an associate of Chez Damier and Ron Trent in Detroit. The vocals were recorded 30 years ago when Dave met Sundiata in America and recorded some of his distinctive exclamations that, when treated via studio trickery, recall elements of David Byrne & Brian Eno’s ‘My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts’ project.

Embedded in the song is a distinct environmental message… ‘Come Together is about saving the planet, it’s a world wakeup call especially about the Ozone layer, it is a song about environmental issues and how we can all make a difference if we come together and do our little bit’ Dave Beer.

‘Erectile’, meanwhile, is far from dysfunctional. Breathy beats and funky fill-ups rev up the track, which rises into a breezy groove resplendent with distant wildlife, a cheeky chuckle and a mysterious spoken word vox. The breathing is all Dave’s own recorded for this track. He didn’t know it at the time of recording but for him to be alive and breathing is everything, he had a cancer scare at the end of 2024 during which he nearly died, but he’s come out the other side and is back to his effervescent self once again.

The song is about celebrating life and being erectile. The giggle is a recording of an ex-girlfriend of his – she used the word erectile in a non-sexualised and funny way which Dave loved and used as the title of the track.

Dave Beer is the infamous founder, promoter and DJ at Northern clubbing institution Back 2 Basics. He is a blueprint for the archetypal clubbing hedonist, the aesthetic that made Basics one of the success stories of the 1990s. Musically, the award-winning nights were on-point: they gave UK debuts to US DJs such as Danny Tenaglia, Derrick Carter and Francois K, early opportunities to Daft Punk, Basement Jaxx and Groove Armada, and helped nurture resident DJs such as Ralph Lawson, Denney, Paul Woolford, Tristan Da Cunha, James Holroyd, Huggy and Burnski. At the centre of the dancefloor madness was Dave Beer — the life and soul of the party, always thinking of others before himself. Basics celebrated its 33rd Birthday last year.

As has been well documented, Back To Basics man Dave — a recent convert to Buddhism —. This single sees him back to where he belongs — at the heart of his beloved dance scene, bringing everybody together.
