New research from Cuvva reveals Brits stay loyal to their most-loved cars

New data from leading temporary car insurance provider Cuvva has revealed the cars UK drivers love the most, with the Volkswagen Golf, Ford Fiesta, and Ford Focus taking the top spots in the nation’s hearts.

Cuvva analysed over 2.2 million policies sold in 2025 to uncover the top 10 most popular cars to insure with temporary car insurance. The Volkswagen Golf and Ford Fiesta took first and second place for the fifth consecutive year, confirming both models as firm favourites among UK drivers.

They’re not the only hatchbacks to have a hold on us. Many of 2025’s most-loved cars are similarly compact and practical. From nimble superminis like the Vauxhall Corsa and VW Polo, to dependable family favourites such as the Vauxhall Astra and Ford Focus.

It’s easy to see the appeal. These popular cars are great to drive, small enough to park easily, and affordable to insure. In 2025, an average one-hour policy on a Corsa cost just £16.03, or £28.16 for a full day. While a Fiesta could be insured for as little as £15.86 for an hour or £27.65 for a day on average.

Larger cars also feature among the most insured vehicles, including the Range Rover and Nissan Qashqai. With many drivers using temporary cover to go on staycation or take a day trip with the kids, a little extra space can come in handy.

And while bigger cars often come with a significantly higher purchase price, getting temporary cover on an SUV can cost just pennies more than a supermini. In 2025, drivers could get insured on a Nissan Qashqai from just £15.83 for an hour or £27.31 for a full day on average.

Premium models also rank highly, with the Audi A3 and A4 appearing alongside the Range Rover in the top 10. Drivers may be pleasantly surprised at how affordable it can be to insure more luxurious vehicles on a short-term basis — averaging £17.39 for an hour in an A3, or £35.95 for a whole day.

Temporary car insurance lets drivers get insured on a car for as long as they need, from just 1 hour to 28 days. For those who don’t want the cost of buying and maintaining their own car, it’s a great way to borrow a car from a friend or family member whenever they need to hit the road.

Darryl Bowman from Cuvva said: “Many drivers are surprised at just how affordable short-term insurance can be – even for larger or more premium cars.

“Whether it’s a quick trip to the shops in a supermini or a weekend away in an SUV, temporary cover makes it easier and more accessible for people to get on the road without overpaying.”
