The charming galactic smuggler, Han Solo, has taken the crown as Britain’s favourite Star Wars character of all time, according to new research revealed on Star Wars Day (May 4th).

The study, by Showcase Cinemas, shows that almost a quarter of the UK (22%) voted the swashbuckling hero as the best Star Wars character, with Luke Skywalker coming in second (16%) and the lovable Chewbacca following closely behind (15%).

When it came to our all-time favourite Star Wars film from the franchise, The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V) was number one.

In addition, Darth Vader’s classic “No, I am your father” line from The Empire Strikes Back has been voted as one of the best big screen movie moments ever.

It’s clear that film fans prefer the old-school Star Wars movies and characters to the more recent – as Rey and Finn fell short of the top 10 list of the UK’s favourite Star Wars characters with only 4% and 3% of the votes respectively.

“We’re looking forward to reopening our doors again on May 17, with all our cinemas operating the Be Showcase Safe programme that we successfully introduced last year.”
