Employees at Amazon’s fulfilment centre in Manchester have packed and donated 1,200 care kits to Lifeshare, helping support people experiencing homelessness across the city.

12 Amazon employees volunteered their time to pack the care kits, which contain everyday essentials including toothbrushes, toothpaste, travel-sized shampoo and soap. The kits have been donated to Lifeshare, where they will be distributed to people accessing the charity’s services.

Lifeshare is a Manchester-based charity that supports people experiencing homelessness and hardship by providing practical assistance, advice and opportunities to help individuals move towards independent living. Alongside emergency support, the charity works year-round to help people access housing, healthcare and other vital services.

Jess Gibney, an employee from Amazon in Manchester who volunteered to pack the care kits, said:

“It was great to be part of something that will have such a positive impact in our local community. Packing the kits was a simple way for us to support Lifeshare and the important work the charity does every day. We hope these essential items provide some comfort and practical support to the people who receive them.”

Deb Dun, Volunteer Coordinator from Lifeshare added:

“Everyday toiletries are always in demand and these care kits will provide practical support and comfort to people experiencing homelessness at a time when they need it most. Thank you to the team at Amazon for supporting us and our community.”

Community donations and employee volunteering are just two of the ways Amazon supports the communities where it operates. Amazon co-founded the Multibank initiative with former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown to support families in need. ‘Brick-by-Brick’ Multibank opened in Wigan in 2023, with The Brick. The Multibank network has donated more than 12 million surplus goods to over 800,000 families across Greater Manchester, Scotland, Wales, London, Tees Valley and Birmingham. This year, the Multibank will send 1 million orders to families across the UK.

Amazon has supported more than one million students across the UK with free STEM education programmes through Amazon Future Engineer and helps community organisations transport meals and other essentials to families in need through its pro bono logistics programme, Amazon Local Good.

Amazon partners with Comic Relief and is the official home of the charity’s iconic Red Nose. Together with its employees, customers, and partners, Amazon has raised over £4.8 million to fund projects that support people across the UK, and around the world.
