Manchester Charities Welcome Donations From Amazon

Two charities that support communities across Greater Manchester have received donations totalling £6,800 from the team at Amazon’s corporate office in the city.

Mustard Tree and Lifeshare each received donations following nominations of support from Amazon employees.

Mustard Tree supports people across Greater Manchester who are impacted by poverty and homelessness. The charity provides food, clothing, furniture and training to those in need and runs programmes aimed at improving the health and wellbeing of the people it supports.

Lifeshare is the oldest homeless charity in Greater Manchester and was established to help meet the needs of homeless and vulnerable people in Manchester and Salford. Its primary objectives include identifying street homelessness and offering assistance in obtaining emergency accommodation. The charity works to alleviate aspects of poverty and hardship through redistribution of resource and to assist people in accessing primary health care and to promote health and harm reduction.

Matt Birch, Site Leader at the Amazon corporate office in Manchester, said:

“The services offered by these charities have an incredible impact on communities across Manchester and we’re pleased to lend a helping hand to their staff and volunteers with these donations. The Mustard Tree and Lifeshare Limited work hard to create positive change for so many people in our region and we’re proud to support them.”

Judith Vickers, operations manager, at Lifeshare, added:

“It’s with the support of businesses like Amazon that means we can continue to offer the lifesaving support for those who are homeless and vulnerable in Greater Manchester. We’re extremely grateful to all the employees who nominated us alongside other amazing charities working to make a difference within the Manchester community.”

“This much needed cash injection is helping to fund our weekend breakfast project that offers anyone in need of support, advice and a hot meal on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning. We’re seeing more and more guests each week; this contribution is feeding people who would otherwise go without.”

Community donations are one of several ways in which Amazon supports the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK. Amazon provides students, teachers and parents with free computer science and STEM education programmes and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than six million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the country.
