Manchester Charities Receive a Christmas Gift From Amazon

Six charities that support communities across Greater Manchester have received donations totalling £32,000 from the team at Amazon’s corporate office in the city.

Barnardo’s Manchester, Mustard Tree, Coffee4Craig, We Love MCR charity, Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Charity, and Manchester and District Home for Lost Dogs each received donations following nominations of support from employees at Amazon in Manchester.

Speaking on the donations, Matt Birch, Site Leader at the Amazon corporate office in Manchester, said: “At Amazon, we aim to use our scale as a force for good in communities where we operate and we encourage our employees to champion the causes they care most about. It is our pleasure to offer donations to these six fantastic organisations that help those most in need across Manchester and we hope the funds will provide vital support through the festive season and beyond.”

Barnardo’s Manchester: Barnardo’s is the UK’s largest children’s charity and works to transform the lives of vulnerable children in the UK. The charity supports children across Manchester through their Big Manchester North initiative. This is a child-focused family service providing support to address the impact of domestic abuse, substance misuse and poor mental health on children.

Mustard Tree: The charity supports people across Greater Manchester who are impacted by poverty and homelessness. The charity provides food, clothing, furniture and training to those in need and runs a number of programmes to improve health and wellbeing.

Coffee4Craig: Coffee4Craig supports people in Manchester experiencing homelessness. The charity offers home-cooked meals, medical assistance, hygiene facilities and advice services to those in need. Coffee4Craig also runs a food bank for families experiencing food poverty.

We Love MCR: We Love MCR supports the community and young people across Greater Manchester to make the city a safer, cleaner and friendlier place. The charity offers grant programmes for young people with limited finances to make a big difference when starting out on their careers and provide funds to empower local people to improve their own communities.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Charity: The charity provides vital equipment and funds research into lifesaving treatments for patients across their family of hospitals.

Manchester and District Home for Lost Dogs: The charity focuses on the care and collection of stray and unwanted dogs. The organisation offers high-quality kennelling, veterinary treatment, and re-homing facilities.

CEO Jo Walby from Mustard Tree, said:

“Thank you very much to the team at Amazon for acknowledging our hard work and offering us this support. We are just one of many amazing charities in Manchester working to make a difference for those in need and it’s great to see our efforts being recognised.”

Community donations are one of several ways in which Amazon supports the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK. Amazon provides students, teachers and parents with free computer science and STEM education programmes and has teamed up with charity partner Magic Breakfast to deliver more than six million healthy breakfasts to children at risk of hunger in disadvantaged areas of the country.
