Maldives ex-president Yameen admitted at the hospital for the third time since detention – Family suspects foul play !
Mr Abdulla Yameen is the leader of the largest opposition coalition in the island republic of the Maldives. At the age of 59, he looks younger than his years; possibly as a result of the strict exercise regimen he used to maintain.
Now, Mr Yameen’s health is deteriorating. Earlier in February, he was detained by a court order; a move described as “unconstitutional and wrong” by a former deputy prosecutor general. Since his detention, Mr Yameen has been transported from his confinement in Maafushi to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Male three times.
His family now believe that he is being poisoned. Mr Yameen, currently in hospital, is reportedly suffering from respiratory difficulties. He is not known to have any respiratory illnesses.
Mr Yameen’s health is quickly deteriorating, and the hearing to appeal his detention has not yet been scheduled. Some believe that Mr Yameen is being kept in detention to weaken the opposition ahead of April’s parliamentary elections.
