Major milestone for 109 affordable Manchester homes

EQUANS, the new brand for ENGIE’s service and regeneration-led activities, is pleased to have started work on site one at the Gorton Lane new-build housing scheme, which marks a major milestone in the project’s timeline. The Gorton Lane scheme will see a modern development of 109 homes constructed on previously disused land in Manchester, providing much-needed affordable housing in the city. The 91 apartments will be offered on a rent-to-buy basis, with the 18 three and four-bedroom houses available for shared ownership.

The work is being completed on behalf of housing association One Manchester, who joined EQUANS on-site recently to mark the beginning of work on site one.

The scheme is made up of two sites; site one, which will comprise of 12 townhouses, and site two (located over the road) which will contain 6 townhouses and 91 apartments. With site two well underway and site one having just started, both are set to complete later this year.

All the homes will benefit from access to green spaces, with each townhouse having its own private garden and the apartment blocks having access to communal green spaces.

Steven Gregory, Construction Director at EQUANS, said: “It’s great to see Gorton Lane reach yet another key milestone, on the way to completion later this year. Manchester has a clear need for affordable housing, and EQUANS is pleased to be able to help the city meet this need in collaboration with One Manchester.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the scheme progress and can’t wait to see the finished product later this year.”

Pauline Terry, Regeneration Manager at One Manchester, said: “We have a great team on board, with award winning architects OMI and a dedicated team at EQUANS building homes to a high standard. This is an exciting development launching this summer with the offer of a rental and affordable homeownership proposal to our neighbourhoods.”
