Emergency services responded to reports of a road traffic collision on Hyde Road in Gorton around 9:35pm last night (Thursday 5 August 2026) between a car and a stationary digger.

Four people were inside the car, two of whom – a man a woman – sadly died at the scene.

Two men were seriously injured and were taken to hospital for treatment.

The two injured men were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. They are in police custody.

“We are appealing for any witnesses who may have saw the moments leading up to this incident, or anyone who has mobile phone, Ring doorbell or dash cam footage, to come forward and assist our investigation.
