HSSMI announces growth of its consulting division backed by external capital, and establishment of HSSMI Foundation to provide focus for charitable actions

In a landmark day, HSSMI has announced two key milestones. Firstly, it has secured investment to fund the expansion of its consultancy services division, supporting companies to transition towards net zero and sustainable manufacturing. Secondly, to mark its tenth anniversary, it has confirmed the launch of a new HSSMI Foundation to underpin the career development of the engineers of tomorrow in these two crucial areas.

While the business will continue to focus on three key areas: enabling production scale up of new technologies, enhancing productivity and enabling a transition towards circular economy practices., the injection of new funds will enable HSSMI to develop its capacity and capability to support more organisations as they strive to transform their manufacturing competitiveness towards achieving net zero.

David Anderson, Chairman of HSSMI shared:

“‘HSSMI Ltd was founded in 2012 as a Research and Technology Organisation (RTO) with the goal of supporting the development and application of new knowledge in the field of advanced and sustainable manufacturing, and facilitating greater collaboration between academia and industry. The team have since been successful in securing a regular stream of collaborative R&D projects and in providing technical consultancy to a growing list of commercial clients. Over the years, these projects have unlocked over £100m additional private investment and created or safeguarded thousands of jobs for our partners and the UK economy. The announcement today marks a significant step in the evolution of HSSMI from an RTO into a thriving management consultancy, focused on supporting businesses to embrace sustainable manufacturing.”

Axel Bindel, Executive Director, HSSMI commented:

“The injection of external capital will create a catalyst for us to expand our consulting services, as well as provide even more skills and innovation to our partners and the range of industries we serve. Our vision is to increase our revenue ten-fold over the next five to 10 years, as well as drive systemic economic, environmental and societal benefits for the wider global economy even further forward.”

To mark its tenth anniversary, HSSMI is proud to announce the launch of a new HSSMI Foundation. The charitable arm, to be operational from 2022, will ensure that HSSMI’s original charitable aims in supporting the development of future engineers in the area of sustainable manufacturing, as well as in ensuring accrued knowledge from R&D programs, is disseminated to the rest of the manufacturing community. The Foundation will work closely with higher education institutions to offer student scholarships, support student projects, and develop skills of future leaders in sustainable manufacturing. Further details surrounding the innovative new charity will be communicated in the coming months.

David Anderson added:

“At HSSMI we truly believe that a key component in the development of sustainable manufacturing in the UK is the nurturing of future leaders who will drive forward the changes necessary. Building on our already excellent relationship with UK universities and colleges, the HSSMI Foundation will offer student scholarships to promising young engineers in this crucial field and provide further support in their career development.”
