How Tom Holland could be on British money

A new study has revealed the alternative banknotes we could be using if the figurehead was chosen by their popularity, rather than their historical significance or role as the head of state.

Tom Holland, Margot Robbie, and Pedro Pascal are among some of the selected figures that could feature on currencies around the world.

The money saving experts at Sambla looked at who the most searched-for people are on Wikipedia per country in 2023 so far and have designed the following alternative currencies.

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Great Britain and the commonwealth will begin to see new notes enter circulation in 2024. If the currency was to feature a figure based off popularity alone, it appears Tom Holland would take the crown.

Known for his role as Spiderman in the Marvel Franchise, the actor could be found on the backs of £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes in the UK.

As it stands, the Australian Dollar features poets, inventors and sopranos, along with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on its $5 note. However, it has been announced that moving forward, the note will not feature King Charles.

According to the study, an alternative choice could be Barbie-actor Margot Robbie. Known for her roles in the Wolf of Wall Street, Neighbours and Harley Quinn, the Australian actor could potentially have her own Barbie doll and her own banknotes too.

Known as ‘daddy’ across the internet, the Last of Us actor, Pedro Pascal is tipped as Chile’s favourite choice for their alternative currency, replacing war heroes, politicians and philosophers.

Other alternative currencies include Greta Thunberg on the Swedish Krona, Lionel Messi on the Argentinian Peso and Elon Musk on the Canadian Dollar.

Money experts at Sambla commented:

“The faces featured on currencies all over the world are a symbol of a nation’s identity. Often chosen for their historical and societal impact, it’s interesting to see who the public would pick for their alternative banknotes.

“However, if you do end up receiving a banknote featuring Lionel Messi or Elon Musk, you unfortunately may be a victim of a counterfeit money scam.

“Some simple design checks to spot a counterfeit include the feel of the paper, visible holograms, and the lines and print should be sharp and well-defined.”
