Families in Manchester Share Christmas Joy Thanks to Family Action

Families supported by Family Action’s Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities (EPEC) service and Manchester children’s Services came together last week for a special Christmas celebration, bringing festive cheer to those who need it most.
EPEC Manchester hosted a Christmas Stay ‘n’ Play event for families with children aged one to three. Twenty families joined the fun-filled session, enjoying festive activities and a welcoming environment. Santa also attended the event, helping to deliver Toy Appeal gifts to children and adding to the excitement of the day.
At Crossacres Family Hub they hosted a festive morning, spreading some Christmas joy and helping families enjoy the season without the financial strain that so many are facing.
New research* commissioned by Family Action reveals the emotional and practical toll of festive financial pressures on parents/carers, with 1 in 6 (15%) saying they can’t afford a gift for their own child and almost a third (32%) think their children will be worried about the cost of Christmas and family finances this year
Family Action’s annual Toy Appeal aims to change that story. By providing gifts to children who might otherwise go without, the appeal restores dignity, lifts pressure from struggling families and brings joy back to Christmas morning.
One family said: “The Toy Appeal really helps us out as things are very, very tight this year so we can wrap the gift for him and say it’s from us. […] Family Action gave us a dinosaur toy, which is amazing as he’s dinosaur mad.”
“I am so pleased that Wythenshawe Families have felt supported by the toys they received this year from Family Action,” said Rachel Smith, Operational Manager North East.
She continued: “We know this time of year is challenging for lots families so it’s great that we can ease some pressure and support parents, carers and their children to enjoy a happy Christmas.”
“The Toy Appeal has allowed us to show our appreciation to families […] and make a difference to the children given the challenges they face during a very tough economic climate for all,” said Tuyet Dickens, EPEC Manchester Coordinator.
Family Action is urging individuals, businesses and organisations to donate and help bring joy to a child and peace of mind to a parent struggling to make ends meet.
