Bemposta flagged as the Algarve’s hidden gem for holidaymakers and investors

Many of us could do with a holiday overseas after the past couple of years and, according to the latest data, many families are doing just that. Eurostat data shows that commercial flights to Portugal were up 293.7% in February 2022, compared to the same period in 2020.

Meanwhile, on 7 February 2022, Portugal’s hotel booking volumes finally surpassed the levels seen back in winter 2019, for the first time since the pandemic began. According to SiteMinder’s World Hotel Index, bookings tipped up to 101.93% of the level they hit during the same time in 2019, with 73.87% of bookings in February made by international travellers.

“Tourists are returning to Portugal en masse. So many families are feeling a deep need to destress and let the sunshine soak into them once more, and Portugal offers the perfect place for creating magical family holiday memories. Interestingly, we’re seeing tucked away places attract keen interest at the moment – hidden gems like Bemposta in the Algarve – as well as more established destinations.” -Chris White, Chairman & Founder, Ideal Homes Portugal

Nestled in a scenic spot between Alvor and Portimão, Bemposta offers easy access to both these busier locations while providing the serenity that so many people are looking for after two years of coping with the restrictions and interruptions of the pandemic. It is the ideal place from which to enjoy the Portuguese lifestyle.

Outdoor dining is a large part of the appeal. Both the pretty fishing village of Alvor and the bustling city of Portimão are packed with seafood restaurants with outdoor terraces. Views range from stunning beachscapes to long stretches of the Arade River to quaint, cobblestone city squares.

Bemposta also provides easy access to local golf courses and a wide variety of beaches, including tiny, secluded coves and broad expanses of sand complete with hireable loungers and water sports during peak season. For those looking for lively nightlife, both Alvor and Portimão provide a range of options.

Alvor is also known for its abundance of cycling routes. Enjoying the Algarve on two wheels is an incredibly popular activity and Alvor alone has 120 cycling routes mapped out for riders to enjoy. The Alvor Sports Complex also offers a free month workshop on bicycle maintenance, encouraging riders not to give up on their older bikes but to cherish and restore them. For those up for a major cycling challenge, the Coastal Ecovia runs for around 214 km along the entire length of the Algarve, while the region is known for offering a range of cycling events throughout the year, from professional competitions to events suitable for the whole family.
