Average Brit smoker spends nearly £2,600 a year going up in smoke
With cigarette prices climbing and health risks well known, a new report reveals just how much Brits are spending on smoking. Ditching cigarettes could save some Brits enough to get on the property ladder.
The research conducted by nicotinepouches.net analysed Tesco.com to reveal the average cost of a pack of cigarettes in 2024. The cost of an average pack was then divided by 20, to find an average cost of per cigarette in the UK.
The cost of a cigarette was then multiplied by an amount of cigarettes smoked per day. The cost per day for different numbers of cigarettes smoked were used to determine an estimated cost of smoking over the course of 1 week, 1 month, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, 10 years and 25 years.
The report also contains ONS data, revealing the highest percentage of smokers in each UK local district between 2023-2019. This ranking was generated to illustrate which parts of the UK are most likely to spend money on cigarettes.
The average price of a packet of cigarettes is £14.23, and the average price per cigarette is £0.71. There are a standard 20 cigarettes per packet.
