Andy Burnham is ‘Starmer with a northern accent’, says Esther McVey

MANCHESTER Mayor Andy Burnham is “Starmer with a northern accent”, according to Conservative MP and former minister Esther McVey.

She told Nana Akua on GB News: “I would say Andy Burnham is Starmer with the northern accent. He’s a chameleon as well.

“He was a Blairite when he needs to be one, he was a Corbynista when he needs to be one. He will be a Scouser when he needs to be one, he’ll go up the M56 he’ll be a Mancunian there.

“And what are his policies? Nationalisation, expansion of the state, increasing welfare, and a wealth tax on those with money.

“So he is exactly the same, only he is weaker because Corbyn managed to get rid of Andy Burnham, whereas at least Starmer got rid of Corbyn. I think he’s going to be a disaster.”

On a claim that Burnham also changes his accent, she said: “That’s what he does all the time, and that’s exactly what Starmer did. That’s why nobody knew what he stood for…

“He never likes to take any difficult questions. This is the man who didn’t do the rape gang inquiry in his own patch.

“This is the man who didn’t take responsibility, even though he’s a police and crime commissioner, for 80,000 crime cases that went missing. I’m afraid he always hides when things get tough.”

She added: “He’s only been an MP or a mayor. He’s never done another job at all.”
