What would James Bond’s Instagram look like?
Fifteen years after Daniel Craig first appeared on our screens as James Bond in Casino Royale, and almost £3 billion in sales at the worldwide box office later, we now await the fifth and final installment of his chapter in the Bond franchise, No Time To Die.
As the sixth highest-grossing film franchise in history, the iconic Bond brand is synonymous with action packed adventure, luxurious locations and timeless style, leading brands to pay huge sums of money for mere seconds of screen time to simply be associated with Bond’s suave character.
The 25th film in the series is no different, and is set to bring in a whopping £75 million in endorsement deals alone, with global brands like Aston Martin, Omega and Tom Ford partnering up with the franchise once again — he’s both a super spy and an influencer.
So, what would James Bond’s Instagram page look like? What would he post, who would he follow and would he be sliding into anyone’s DMs? The team at digital marketing agency Extreme have some ideas.
They believe he’d keep his friends close, but his enemies closer. Trusted colleagues M, Q and Eve Moneypenny are likely to be on his list of close friends, but his circle would be kept intentionally small and his account strictly private.
Perhaps the biggest ladies’ man of them all, past love interests from over the years may be on the receiving end of the odd charming direct message, story reaction or a more subtle ‘like’.
But never one to clock off the job, James could also use the platform to keep an eye on his enemies, gathering intel for MI6 and keeping one step ahead of any threats to national security.
However, it’s not all work and no play. James Bond’s identity is heavily crafted around the brands he associates himself with — they’re a part of his identity and have helped shape him into the suave, stylish, charming man he is.
From a style point of view, he’d keep up to date with the latest trends by following a range of fashion houses. Tom Ford for his tailoring needs, Sunspel for his basics and of course La Perla, the brand behind those famous light blue swimming trunks which caused a serious splash back in 2006.
Never one to leave the house without his accessories, he’d also follow and engage with brands like Omega, to whom he’s been a loyal customer for years.
His need for speed and love of fast cars would see him follow the likes of Aston Martin, and Jaguar Land Rover. He’d constantly be watching reviews of the latest gadgets, sending Q clips for him to incorporate in his latest car designs.
Having visited some of the most beautiful parts of the world while carrying out his various missions over the years — Italy, Mexico, Turkey and Austria to name a few — Bond’s grid would be filled with pictures of stunning landscapes from along his travels, as well as some of the fine delicacies he’s eaten and drank along the way.
Perhaps he’d even create a Story Highlight of each destination’s best bits, but again only to share with his closed circle of friends.
Although Bond would likely only use Instagram for intel gathering, gadget inspiration and checking in with his past lovers — it’s doubtful he’d ever use a gif, jump on the latest viral filter challenge or post a #selfie — as king of keeping a low profile, he’d be doing what a spy does best: hiding in plain sight.
