What are “Sausage Lips”? Expert in lip filling explains the phenomenon and says how to avoid it

Have you heard about the “sausage lips”? Recently, the Lebanese influencer Romina Nikkah Matanag, and the Bulgarian Andrea Ivanova, considered the “Human Barbie”, were criticized in the networks after showing their lips with a very different appearance. And it’s not just them who came up with their mouths that way, just a little search on the internet and we soon find images of other women with similar cases. But what exactly are “sausage lips”? Lip filler expert Dr. Olinda Lorentz, talks about the phenomenon and explains the best way to avoid them. The demand for voluminous and uniform lips has grown a lot in recent years, as well as other aesthetic procedures.

Women, mainly, have a concern with beauty and invest their time and money to look more beautiful. However, when looking for a method to bring doll lips to reality, some do not get the expected result. According to the specialist, Olinda Lorentz, the exaggerated effect is not a characteristic of bad professionals, but the technique used by them is very simple and therefore the result is far from natural. According to her, in Brazil, for example, there are professionals who do not sculpt the lips and only inject hyaluronic acid.

“The way many professionals inject the product is like stuffing a sausage. It leaves the lip line and sometimes projects forward, giving the impression of a duck bill”, says Olinda. But she makes it clear that this work has to do with the way the professional was taught to perform the technique. To help people who are faced with this situation, Lorentz has a method that reverses this effect. She sees an average of 10 people daily with the same complaints and remembers that not all patients want big lips.

“The treatment works by removing hyaluronic acid using hyaluronidase, that is, an enzyme used to degrade the acid,” she explains, adding that the procedure works like a melting of hyaluronic acid. For Olinda, despite carrying out the method in a simple way, there is also another way to make your lips beautiful without having to remove the product. However, the technique is not as widely used in Brazil, but has already become common in European countries.
The expert also warns about the need to take care of her patients every day, as she deals with cases of dysmorphic disorders, dysmorphobia and overvaluation of aesthetics. “They will never be completely satisfied and we, as professionals, need to show what is best for each one and present the limits”, concludes Olinda Lorentz.
