Vinterior Restores and Elevates Mid-Century Dollshouse for First-of-its-kind Charity Auction.

Vinterior, the online marketplace for pre-loved furniture and homeware, has partnered with The Kensington Dollshouse Company to create a one-of-a-kind mid-century replica. On display at Museum of the Home, the dollshouse will be auctioned for charity from 16th-20th October, with proceeds supporting the Museum’s social engagement and community outreach work. This will be the first, and possibly the only time a Kensington Dollshouse Company vintage house will be available for the public to purchase.

In response to the surging interest in miniature dollshouses and inspired by mid-century modern design, this project takes a new approach to the traditional dollshouse. This pre-loved house has been saved from landfill and carefully restored to its former glory, embodying Vinterior’s commitment to sustainability by working only with pre-loved pieces.

The house includes a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom, each decorated in Edward Bulmer Natural Paint and meticulously furnished with period-appropriate pieces, including an Eames rocking chair and industrial pendant lamps.

The dollshouse has been donated to Museum of the Home in East London and is currently exhibited in their Chapel, offering visitors a chance to see mid-century modern design on a miniature scale in real life. The exhibition brings historical home, interior design, and vintage enthusiasts to their Hoxton location, where visitors can also explore their renowned Rooms Through Time galleries – full sized period room sets exploring the interiors of domestic spaces spanning 1630 to 2049.

The dollshouse will be auctioned online and open to a global audience from 16th-20th October, with proceeds supporting the Museum of the Home’s social justice work, supporting causes close to their heart, including Hidden Homelessness, Food Equality, Period Poverty and Climate Action.

“We are excited to collaborate with The Kensington Dollshouse Company on this restoration project,” said Ruth Halls, Head of Brand at Vinterior. “We’re celebrating the beauty of mid-century design and the joy of pre-loved while making a positive impact on society.”

The Kensington Dollshouse Company shares this enthusiasm. “I’ve been a Vinterior customer for a long time and my love of vintage and antiques is lifelong, so it was very special to source this tired old dollshouse and give it a sparkling makeover” stated Lucy Clayton, Founder of The Kensington Dollshouse Company. “The house features vintage papers and decoration, alongside exquisite pieces we’ve made especially for each room. We have included pieces commissioned from some of the finest miniature makers, and all the elements combine to create this charming, eclectic, jewel box of a house. We are delighted to collaborate with the Museum of the Home too, because it feels like the perfect ending to a wonderful project and the auction will be the first time a Kensington Dollshouse Company vintage house will be available to buy, ever!”

Danielle Patten, Director of Creative Programmes and Collections for Museum of the Home says, “We’re thrilled to be hosting the exhibition of this remarkable, one-of-a-kind dollshouse. This project both delves into mid-century design and interiors and, beautifully aligns with our ethos of sustainability and exploring what home means. It will be an honour to exhibit and auction the house to support our Campaign for Change.”
