UK businesses must brace themselves for Trump’s tariffs

Business growth expert David B Horne says companies in the UK will have to brace themselves for change now Trump appears to have secured his place as America’s 47th president. The founder of Add Then Multiply, a consultancy which helps entrepreneurs grow their businesses, says a second Trump term is likely to bring a period of isolationism for the United States, which will have an impact on the rest of the world.

David says: “We haven’t seen isolationism in the USA since America was convinced to join the Allies in World War II more than 80 years ago. Trump has already said he’s going to whack at least 10% tariffs on foreign imports (and more on Mexican ones), which will hit any business that exports to the USA.

“He has threatened to cut funding to NATO, which opens up huge security risks for the UK and Europe. As a Canadian living in the UK, I wonder what he’ll do about the northern border, which remains the longest unarmed border in the world.

“Beyond the issue of tariffs, the USA remains one of the UK’s largest trading partners in the world and we mustn’t lose sight of that. But businesses will need to watch carefully as the situation unfolds and be ready to react to the news as it comes out.”

David, who is the bestselling author of the award-winning Add Then Multiply – How small businesses can think like big businesses and achieve exponential growth, can talk about the impact a Trump victory will have on UK business. And as the founder of Funding Focus, a social enterprise which aims to level the uneven playing field that female and underrepresented entrepreneurs face when raising capital, he can also discuss how it could affect moves to improve equality.
