Simon England, Founder and Managing Director of the leading car gap insurance company, has provided advice to those looking to buy a used car:

“When buying a used car, it’s important to thoroughly research the specific make and model, checking for common issues and recalls. Obtain a comprehensive vehicle history report to reveal any hidden problems and schedule a pre-purchase inspection with a trusted mechanic.

Be cautious of deals that seem too good to be true, scrutinise the seller’s credibility, and understand your rights under consumer protection laws. Consider securing financing pre-approval to establish a budget and avoid high-pressure sales situations. A secure car warranty can also act as a safety net to cover any faults post-purchase too.

With a well-informed and diligent approach, used car owners can significantly reduce the risk of encountering issues commonly associated with purchasing a second-hand car.”
