The most popular film genres across the UK, revealed

A new study by Amazon Slots has analysed search volume data for multiple phrases, terms, and queries related to movies and movie genres over the last 12 months to determine which cities and towns love films the most.

Ranking in first place is Canterbury. The city boasts an average monthly search volume of 1,748 movie-related terms per 100,000 people. Canterbury’s favourite genre is horror, with an average monthly search volume of 377 per 100,000 people.

Bath takes second place, with an average monthly search volume of 1,734 per 100,000 people. Like Canterbury, the people of Bath also favour horror as their preferred genre, with an average monthly search volume of 356 per 100,000 people. Animated movies come in second place with an average monthly search volume of 252 per 100,000 people.

Lancaster ranks third, with an average monthly search volume of 1,602 per 100,000 people. The city’s favourite genre is horror, capturing the attention with an average monthly search volume of 324 per 100,000 people. Additionally, Lancaster showcases a keen interest in animated films and documentaries, with respective average monthly search volumes of 195 and 163 per 100,000 people.

Securing fourth place is Liverpool, with an average monthly search volume of 1,439 per 100,000 people. Horror movies dominate the searches in Liverpool, garnering an average monthly search volume of 382 per 100,000 people. Notably, the people of Liverpool also display a high interest in animated films, with an average monthly search volume of 217 per 100,000 people.

In fifth place is Preston, with an average monthly search volume of 1,406 per 100,000 people. Like the previous cities, horror movies reign supreme in Preston, with an average monthly search volume of 341 per 100,000 people.

In sixth place is Inverness, with an average monthly search volume of 1,403 per 100,000 people. Taking the seventh spot is Blackburn, with an average monthly search volume of 323 per 100,000 people.

Securing eighth place is Lincoln, with an average monthly search volume of 1,371 per 100,000 people. Birmingham claims the ninth position, with an average monthly search volume of 1,370 per 100,000 people.

Finally, Manchester rounds off the top ten cities with an average monthly search volume of 1,352 per 100,000 people.

Interestingly, horror films were almost universally the most searched film genre, except for in Carlisle and St. Albans, in which War films and Documentaries were respectively the most searched.
