The cost of throwing a Bridgerton ball in 2021

Period drama lovers inspired by the glamorous parties in Bridgerton have been told they’d have to set aside £35,000 to host their own society ball in 2021.

The number crunchers at NetVoucherCodes.co.uk have looked at how much it would cost to host a Bridgerton style debutante ball today.

They’ve looked at everything the aristocratic families would expect at a social event in the early 1800s and have calculated how much the same would be in 2021.

Taking into account the venue, flowers, food, music, clothing and jewellery, the eye watering cost came in at over £35,000.

The hire of the venue would be the biggest cost for a family hoping to host the same now with around £12,000 allocated from the budget for the hire of a stately home for the weekend.

Food and drink were the second biggest outlays with guests at a Regency ball expecting a sumptuous three course dinner with wine and champagne flowing all evening.

The cost for that now would come in at £10,199 which would include the cost of the caterers, dinner and a selection of wines, champagne and beer.

But to make the meal a success, a society family would need staff. The cost of waiting staff for the dinner alone would set you back a hefty £2,415.

And once dinner is over, it’s time to dance. An orchestra would cost a mere £1,200 with the floral arrangements to decorate the ballroom and dining tables costing £5,455.

And what if you were a guest at one of these events? A carriage to the ball in 2021 would cost around £595 with outfit hire being less than £100 for the event.

When it comes to jewellery, expect to splash out over £600 for the hire of period necklaces, broaches and diamond rings.

Bridgerton has been a popular choice for viewers over recent weeks, following the trials and tribulations of a season in Regency London.

The series has followed the blossoming relationship between the Duke of Hastings and Daphne Bridgerton, all seen through the eyes of the noble Bridgerton family.

A spokesperson from NetVoucherCodes.co.uk said: “Who hasn’t been enthralled by the trials and tribulations of the Bridgerton family over recent weeks? It’s definitely been essential viewing to get us through these chilly lockdown days.

“The balls have been a sight to behold and that got us thinking about how much it would cost to host one now. We knew it would be on the costly side but didn’t expect to hit a figure of over £35,000.

“What it’s important to remember is that in the 1800s these balls were a serious event and the chance for many young men and women to meet the person they would eventually marry. It was certainly more than just a night out!

“We love all the glamour and pageantry that goes with these events. Right now, the thought of dressing up and attending one a Bridgerton ball is something we all need to lift our lockdown spirits.”
