Teenager arrested after collision in Tameside
A teenager has been arrested after two boys were struck by a car.
Shortly before 1.55pm on Saturday 16 February, police were called to reports of a collision between a blue Volkswagen Sharan and two pedestrians on Windmill Lane.
Officers attended and two teenagers, aged 13 and 17, were taken to hospital with leg injuries. Their injuries are serious but they are not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver fled the scene in the vehicle – a VW Sharan – was later found abandoned in Haughton Green in Denton the following day (Sunday 17 February 2019).
A 15 year-old-boy attended Ashton Police Station on today (Tuesday 19 February 2019) and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault. He remains in custody for questioning.
Detective Inspector Zoe Stapleton, of GMP’s Tameside District, said: “Our thoughts very much remain with the boys as they recover from this horrific incident at home.
“While we have someone in custody I’d like to reassure members of the community that this investigation very much ongoing and I would urge anyone with information to please get in touch with the police – even the smallest piece of information can assist our enquiries.
