Summer holiday adventures at Victoria Baths

For a Family Friendly day out this August Manchester’s Victoria Baths is the place to be! Lots of extra family fun has been injected into Welcome Wednesdays turning the weekly open days into a summer holidays outing for all ages.

Every Wednesday throughout August (2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 August) the doors to the vast pool halls of the Grade II* listed complex will be open from 11am to 3pm. Located in the Females Pool will be a kids’ craft station loaded with colourful materials to make decorations and art works inspired by the building. The stained glass of the windows, the flowers featured in the design work and the artistry found in every detail are where the creative ideas begin. Entry to Welcome Wednesdays and the kids’ craft station are free, but donations are encouraged.

Summer also sees the launch of a new kids trail Miles of Tiles, which is an exciting way to experience the labyrinth of different spaces that make up Victoria Baths with family and friends. There are fun tasks to complete along the way and curious questions that you need to be eagled eyed to discover the answers to. It’s suitable for ages 5+ and is free to take part in, with a suggested donation of £1, and when you’ve finished the trail there is a small prize to claim at the Welcome Desk. If you prefer your exploring pursuits to be led by a guide then you can join a building tour with one of the brilliant volunteer guides at 1pm. Suitable for all ages and lasting just over an hour the tour will reveal Victoria Baths’ history and fascinating stories. Tickets are £8 for adults (free for Friends of Victoria Baths) and children under 16 are free. More information can be found here: victoriabaths.org.uk/welcomewednesdays/

Those that cannot make it on a Wednesday in August will find all the activities packed into Welcome Sunday on Sunday 27 August – victoriabaths.org.uk/sundayaugust

Picnic in the Pool
On Wednesday 16 August there will be a Picnic in the Pool and everyone is welcome to enjoy a stay and play with a difference. It will be a visual delight with everyone encouraged to bring blankets, cushions and teddies to fill the Gala Pool, which is the perfect setting come rain or shine thanks to its beautiful glass vaulted ceiling. You can bring your own spread of goodies or purchase snacks and treats from the Victoria Baths Tea Room, which will be stocked with younger visitors’ favourite items. Everyone will be gathering from 12noon with music setting the scene and a range of activities and games to enjoy. There will be lots of posing for pictures taking place with a kids’ photo booth and dress up area to have some laughs over. Entry is free, with donations encouraged, and all the other Family Friendly summer activities will also be taking place.
