Stroudley Walk Celebrates Major Regeneration Milestone
Nationwide placemaker Muse and Poplar HARCA together with design and build contractors McAleer and Rushe, hosted a ceremonial ‘topping out’ event to celebrate this key moment on 27 November 2024.
London Deputy Mayor for Housing Tom Copley joined with more than 50 local stakeholders and project partners to recognise the collaborative effort made so far. The scheme is set to deliver 274 much-needed homes, including 115 affordable, for Tower Hamlets residents.
The Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, Tom Copley, said: “I’m delighted that Stroudley Walk has reached this key milestone and is making huge progress towards delivering 274 new, high-quality homes in Tower Hamlets, with a significant number of these set to be genuinely affordable.
“Backed by funding from the Mayor of London, this development supports our mission to deliver the genuinely affordable homes that Londoners need and deserve, helping communities to thrive. The new and improved green spaces and retail and community facilities at Stroudley Walk will play a vital part in transforming the local area, creating a better, greener London for everyone.”
Beyond housing, the Stroudley Walk development will rejuvenate the area with a new park, community café, shops, and other community-focused facilities. These amenities are part of a vision to make Stroudley Walk a hub for living, gathering, and thriving in east London.
During the event, guests toured the site to view progress firsthand, with speeches highlighting the strength of the partnership work driving this project.
Tom Jackson, Senior Development Manager at Muse said: “We are delighted to see Stroudley Walk reach this key milestone of topping out. Projects like this are only achievable through the strength of partnerships. The dedication and hard work of Poplar HARCA, the Greater London Authority, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, and McAleer & Rushe have been vital in delivering this 50% affordable housing development, which will make a lasting difference for the local community.”
The construction milestone was capped with ceremonial concrete dig at the site’s highest point, symbolising the collaboration and progress achieved thus far.
Paul Brickell, Chair of Poplar HARCA board remarked, “It has been a long road, and we have overcome many challenges to start work on this site, so It’s wonderful to take this opportunity to celebrate how far the development has come.
“This milestone reflects our commitment to creating affordable homes and opportunities for Tower Hamlets residents. We are proud to see our shared vision taking shape.”
