Stanley Johnson – “I JUST FEEL INCREDIBLY SORRY FOR KING CHARLES.”
STANLEY JOHNSON says he feels “incredibly sorry” for King Charles over the escalating row with Prince Harry.
Speaking to GB News, the father of the former Prime Minister, said: “I think it is unfortunate what has happened. And I think that something went wildly wrong. Mentioning the number of Taliban he killed was a huge, huge mistake.”
In an interview on Camilla Tominey Today he added: “But most of all, I just feel incredibly sorry for King Charles.”
Meanwhile, the respected Royal commentator Katie Nicholl said Harry isn’t able to see the damage he is causing the institution.
She said: “It’s not a constitutional crisis because Prince Harry is now a peripheral figure within the Royal Family who stood down as a working member, but he retains the title as a chief of Sussex. So it’s not a constitutional crisis, but it is very damaging to the monarchy on the international stage.
Ms Nicholl, who writes for US-based Vanity Fair, said opinion is fast-changing in America, where the couple previously enjoyed huge popularity.
She said: “I think there’s been a sea change in the way the Americans are perceiving it, absolutely. I think the younger generation of Americans are still quite behind Harry and Meghan, they loved the Netflix series. They feel that it’s absolutely right that Harry and Megan have their chance to tell their truth.
“I’m sure they will be pouring over this autobiography. I think the older generation, the more traditional royalists who still love Prince Harry, are concerned for his wellbeing.
“I’ve had a lot of people say he must be unwell. They are asking ‘What is going on here? We’re worried about him’. And then there are also a lot of older Americans who are saying what he’s doing is absolutely wrong. They say: ‘We loved the Queen. We want to see King Charles celebrated at his Coronation for what he’s doing’.
“So, I think there is a mixed reception over in the US, and there is definitely a different reception amongst the age groups, but I think the tide is turning.”
