SKIDMORE REPORT MISSES THE POINT!

Formally launched on Monday 5 September 2022, the Climate Party has gone from strength to strength with its leader Ed Gemmell recently interviewed by Nigel Farage on GBNews.

The Climate Party follows a centre right pro-business pro-climate positioning.

Regarding the Skidmore Report out today Climate Party leader, Ed Gemmell says:

“Slavish adherence to net zero 2050 is damaging Britain commercially but Chris Skidmore fails to recognise this properly in his report! How can Britain be a leader and benefit financially if it drags its feet and hides in the chasing pack. To make Britain Great Again we need to be a front runner and take commercial first mover advantage.”

Although the report does confirm that reaching zero carbon emissions is “the growth opportunity of the 21st century” and urges that UK “must move quickly” it still sticks to the current tardy 2050 net zero target which puts Britain level with nearly 2/3 of the World.

There are clear leaders out there with Germany being the only major economy to legislate already for 2045 net zero. Also Sweden, Iceland and Finland have 2045, 2040 and 2035 respectively. In Britain itself, Scotland has a national target of 2045 while nearly 25% of local authorities in the UK have a target for 2030 for their whole areas.

“If Britain wants to lead the Decarbonisation Revolution, we need to massively improve our ambition. 2050 is the road to ruin and will see us paying the Chinese and Germans for every new eco-innovation. To profit from the growth opportunity of the millennia we need to be at the front. That means a carbon zero target of 2030 – no ‘ifs’ no ‘buts’. Britain’s national mission will be to lead the Decarbonisation Revolution and bring on more than a decade of prosperity in the 2030s.”
