Shop Green this Black Friday, says Shpock

With Black Friday and Cyber Monday fast approaching, consumers will be on the hunt for the best and cheapest deals on the market.

However, Shpock, the popular UK-wide marketplace, is urging consumers to think twice about whether they are actually getting a good deal on Black Friday or if it’s better to Go Green and look to buy good quality, second-hand items after the hype has died down.

Iyesha Cheema-Bradshaw, Brand and Content Manager at Shpock gives us her five tips for saving this Black Friday:

  1. Buying second-hand actually often gets you a better bargain than you would find on Black Friday, particularly with items like electronics.
  2. Look on apps like Shpock which offer a great, greener alternative all year round to Black Friday deals, on second-hand goods.
  3. Do your research: if you know you want something new and are waiting for Black Friday to purchase it, have a look on apps like Shpock to see if you can get the same item even cheaper second-hand.
  4. Think about Reuse, Recycle, Replace rather than always buying new, it’s much more sustainable.
  5. Look for bargains throughout the year so you don’t have to rely on Black Friday every year.

She said: “This year, we’re encouraging consumers to Go Green and swap the Black Friday rush for Shpock bargain buys. By buying second hand, consumers are helping to reduce their carbon footprint, supporting slow fashion and saving money which are all extremely important right now.”

In April, Shpock launched Secure Delivery to empower users to safely buy and sell second-hand goods. This offers buyer protection, safe and hassle-free delivery, minimises face to face interaction and selling items is free.

There are currently over 11 million items to buy on the site, from clothes to electronics and homeware.
