Shaybo calls herself an alpha-female as she’s grown up around guys she’s had to “command that respect”.
Speaking to Chuckie on the latest drop of JD’s In the Duffle Bag podcast, the Nigerian-born artist revealed how her younger days shaped the woman who she is now.
When asked if she is an alpha-female, she said: “Definitely. Well, it depends on the man.
“I feel like I’m much more feminine around a guy that I respect and like, but because I’ve always been around guys I’ve always had to command that respect.
“Me being an alpha-female, it’s just the energy that I give off.
“Obviously, I listen, I can converse with a person and see the different sides and perspectives to things but, at the same time, I don’t like being told what to do and I have a mind of my own”.
In addition, Shaybo spoke about her debut mixtape – Queen of the South – and what it’s about, as well as why she was in and out of the industry before it was released.
The 25-year-old said: “I’ve just taken bare Ls in music.
“For me to come and go and come and go, I had to learn what was working and what wasn’t working.
“Back then, I used to talk about the maddest stuff and then I realised that this is not what people want to hear.
“I’m a young girl, so I had to kind of come in and out, find my sound, find my formula and how I will go about it.
“Now, sometimes feel like you will hear the smokey side to me, sometimes you’ll hear the boujie side to me, me speaking for females, and then you’ll hear me talking about vulnerability, what girls go through with guys, why some girls are guarded.
“I feel that’s why some girls like me because I’m just doing all the different sides and just talking about loads of different things.”
