NIGEL FARAGE CALLS FOR A NET ZERO RETHINK IN FACE OF ‘INDUSTRIAL MASSACRE’
NIGEL Farage has said the UK is facing an “industrial massacre” after Vauxhall announced the closure of their Luton factory.
Speaking on GB News he said: “So today an announcement from Vauxhall in Luton. 1,100 jobs will be going. Some of them will be going up to the northwest, but quite a few overall still will be lost.
“They blame the UK’s economic conditions and the government’s zero emission vehicle mandate.
“So we’re at this situation. We’ve heard a lot about this over the last few years, starting with Boris, it’s gone on.
“Basically by 2030, 80% of cars that will be sold into this country are to be electric vehicles. But there is a problem. Consumers don’t want them.
“And yeah, great if you’ve got a nice, smart Tesla, they’re jolly expensive, but they’re really very smart and great fun and quite good for driving around town, or not any particular long distance.
“But when it comes to trucks and vans, then range anxiety becomes a real issue, because generally, they’re underperforming the targets that were promised. The second-hand sale value of electric vehicles is falling very, very sharply.
“And we’ve got a problem, because we’re forcing manufacturers down this route, and we’re seeing significant layoffs. And it isn’t just here, it’s actually at the heart of Trump’s economic debate in the American election.
“He said, Look, we go down the EV route, we are literally giving the entire car and battery industry for China on a plate.
“This is what was announced just a few months before the last election, that 80% of cars by 2030 have to be electric, and 70% of vans. Is it time to rethink those numbers?
“In the pursuit of net zero we’ve seen both of our aluminium smelters close, we’ve seen almost all our refineries close, we’ve seen, bar one, all of our primary steel making close.
“There is an industrial massacre going on out there. And yeah, sure, there are some green jobs. There are some green jobs, particularly, on the East Coast and things like that.
“But they’re vastly outweighed by the number of jobs that have been lost in traditional manufacturing, and now all this stuff we used to make ourselves we import from elsewhere.
“In the face of this madness, isn’t it time for a rethink?”
