New research reveals that 1 in 10 Brits gifted an e-scooter at Christmas
ONE IN TEN Brits gifted an e-scooter as a Christmas present this year, either for themselves (10%), for their son (10%) or for their spouse, daughter or friend (9%).
But new research, commissioned by Currys PC World, highlights a huge lack of knowledge and an element of distrust in ‘safe’ riders across the UK. In fact, 19% believe they should be banned in the UK as they deem them unsafe. Almost a third report they’d even go as far as reporting someone to the police who they saw riding one!
However, it’s not the e-scooters themselves that are often the problem. Rather, the people who ride them irresponsibly by being dangerous to others on the road (61%), riding them too fast (49%) and not wearing protective gear (43%). A further 13% say they just look ridiculous!
Of course, with the exception of the latter, ALL of the above are easily fixed with a touch of common sense and a little respect for other road users.
Further stats within the research found that people believe there to be a higher statistical chance to die whilst using an e-scooter (25%) than bungee jumping (17%), skydiving (15%) or deep-sea diving (14%), almost a quarter of those surveyed simply wished there was clearer information on e-scooter health and safety.
So… Joining us to discuss the new research, what the government should be doing and the top safety tips for e-scooters are Ed Connolly, Chief Commercial Officer of Currys PC World and Matt Edmondson, BBC Radio One DJ and all-round e-scooter lover.
