New album coming from Japanese pop icon Kyary Pamyu Pamyu
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of her debut album, globally celebrated Japanese pop icon Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is set to release her much anticipated fifth full-length album Candy Racer on October 27th and kick off a 28-date Japan tour on January 16th, with international dates to be announced (full tour itinerary below).
Available to pre-order now on CD (in Japan only) and digitally (worldwide), Candy Racer is the first project to come out on Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s newly launched label KRK LAB. The CD version is accompanied by a hardcover digipak and 64-page para-para manga flip booklet.
Today (10/13), Kyary Pamyu Pamyu premiered a new single off Candy Racer, titled “Dodonpa” (available now to stream/download) with a lyric video for the track (click here to watch). Fans are encouraged to use the new track for monetization when publishing their content (such as music/lyric videos, vlogs, home videos, etc.) on video sites, as long they comply with the guidelines (click here to view). Kyary Pamyu Pamyu will pick out some of her favorite videos that use “Dodonpa” and include them in a playlist she’ll be sharing on her official YouTube channel and TikTok.
In celebration of Candy Racer’s release, her first album in three years, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu will be putting on a special (online only) performance the day the album drops (10/27), set to premiere at 8:00 pm JST/4:00 am PDT. All eleven tracks on Candy Racer were written and produced by Yasutaka Nakata, a legendary figure in the Japanese electro scene and one half of the music duo CAPSULE, who has produced all five of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s albums. In addition to today’s release of “Dodonpa,” three tracks off Candy Racer have been released, including the lead single “Gum Gum Girl,” released on January 29th in collaboration with GunHo’s video game Ninjala and its video has garnered over two million views (click here to watch). The second single “Gentenkaihi” was released on the 10th anniversary of the release of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s major label debut (August 17th) and has over one million views on YouTube (click here to watch). Plus, the track “Jumping Up” was released on September 28th (click here to watch the video).
Creation of the album brought together a number of creative minds who have worked with Kyary Pamyu Paymu over the years, including Steve Nakamura returning as art director, Ken Hanzawa acting as photographer, Kumiko Iijima serving as the singer’s stylist and Shinji Konishi as her hair and makeup artist ─ all of which were with Kyary Pamyu Paymu when she released her debut album ten years ago and now they’ve returned to encourage her, to not only stay connected to her roots, but to move forward without hesitation.
To further celebrate the 10th anniversary milestone, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu launched KRK LAB earlier this year; announcing it as her new platform to distribute future projects that highlight her artistic and creative evolution. The artist shares, “My whole team and record label have been totally renewed at the timing of my 10th anniversary. Everything has changed, except me. Now it’s my turn to break out of my shell and take on various challenges. I will restart everything from scratch. It’s like being a rookie again after my 10th anniversary. I will beat up the ‘Big Ribbon singer from Harajuku’ so hard…so watch out for the new me.”
