Nearly two thirds of Brits splash out impulsively on themselves at Christmas
Christmas isn’t just about giving to others, it’s also about treating yourself, as new research has uncovered just how self-indulgent Brits get over the holidays.
A study conducted by Flaming Grill has revealed that nearly two thirds of Brits (64%) admit to buying themselves impulsive Christmas gifts during the festive season
For some, the spending doesn’t just stop at small treats, as 2% confess to splashing more than £1,000 on special presents for “me, myself, and I.”
It’s also not just presents where people splash out during Christmas, the study also revealed that £120 is the average spend for a Christmas night out at the pub.
Almost two thirds of Brits (65%) say their regular routines go out the window during the festive period, while nearly half (48%) admit to eating and drinking more than usual.
Interestingly, women appear to be the bigger spenders when it comes to self-gifting at Christmas, with almost two-thirds (65%) admitting to spending more money during the holidays compared to just 56% of men.
With more than half of Brits (59%) admitting to receiving Christmas gifts they didn’t like, it’s no surprise that the majority of people take matters into their own hands with the average Brit spending £140 on an impulsive Christmas gift for themselves.
But the indulgence doesn’t stop there, Christmas is increasingly becoming a time to take a break from the hustle and bustle as 1 in 6 Brits (15%) admit to taking ‘duvet days’ during the holidays to rest, recharge, and embrace a little festive skiving.
To embrace this growing trend, Flaming Grill is launching its biggest-ever festive competition, encouraging guests to own their naughty side with decadent prizes designed to make their Christmas extra special.
The festive season is traditionally seen as a time of giving, but research shows that more people are using the holidays to indulge themselves.
But, for those keeping it simple, more than half of Brits (51%) say they’d love something as practical as news socks for Christmas, proving that even the smallest treats can spark joy during the holidays.
Sophie Howells, Senior Marketing Manager at Flaming Grill, said: “Christmas isn’t just about being nice, it’s also the perfect time to embrace being a little bit naughty!
