NEW SHOWS…
Dance and Performing Arts take centre stage at The Lowry this Spring with ‘Timeless’ on 22nd April. Conceived by Milap, the show is a celebration and homage to Indian dance, where three exceptional artists offer fresh creative voices within centuries-old traditions. Starring Elena Catalano (Odissi), Kinga Malec (Kathak) and Santosh Nair (Bharatanatyam), each artist will present a solo work, reflecting the refinement of their training and distinctive style, followed by an. exclusive collaborative performance, combining artforms in a multi-dimensional showcase.

Other recently announced shows in Manchester include two children’s concerts at The Bridgewater Hall on 16th February, featuring Jonathan Mayer (Sitar) and Milap’s Artist in Residence, Kousic Sen (Tabla). Designed with primary school children in mind, the show is an opportunity for curious young listeners to see and hear these extraordinary instruments up close. The performance is also interactive and children will be able to explore Indian rhythmic patterns through clapping and chanting.

Milap have also recently announced two children’s sessions in Liverpool, partnering with The Reader on Saturday 7th March. Holi at the Storybarn marks the arrival of spring, new life and the Hindi festival of colours with Holi-inspired storytelling sessions, spring crafts for families and a colour hunt in Calderstones park.

Milap return to Liverpool International Jazz Festival on 28th February, with a special collaboration from Indo-Jazz frontrunners, Zoe Rahman & Arun Ghosh at the Capstone Theatre. The multi award-winning duo will explore their shared British-Bengali heritage in a musical conversation that blends South-Asian and jazz traditions.

Globally-acclaimed percussionist, composer and producer Sarathy Korwar will grace the stage of Birkenhead’s Future Yard on 28th March. A standout voice on the UK Jazz scene, Korwar presents a striking percussion-led exploration of rhythm, voice and electronics, fusing South-Asian temple procession rhythms with contemporary minimalism.
