Manchester’s Tyler Grange achieves coveted B-Corporation certification

Acknowledging its commitment to its people and the planet, Manchester-based environmental consultancy Tyler Grange has achieved certification as a B-Corporation.

B-Corp recognises firms that are reinventing the world of work for good, and only businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability make the grade.

Tyler Grange achieved an impressive B-Corp Impact Assessment (BIA) score of 91.3 – placing it in top spot amongst all those certified firms working within the UK environmental sector. The median score for ordinary businesses that complete the B-Corporation BIA is 50.9 and an 80+ score is required to achieve certification.

The Deansgate firm’s scores also exceed benchmarks set for all B-Corp certified businesses of its size and nationally and result in it being categorised as a company with ‘minor environmental impact.’

The eco-consultancy scored very highly in the ‘workers’ section, which measures how a company contributes to an employee’s physical, professional, and social wellbeing. Its Tribe benefits from many wellbeing initiatives – including free counselling and ongoing mentorship – as well as career development and training programs, and a three-day weekend as part of the UK’s four-day week pilot scheme. All of which support its ESG targets and helped towards it becoming a Certified B-Corporation.

Tyler Grange’s strong scores across the board are attributed, amongst other factors, to: The creation of a Decarbonisation Team to help the company achieve its sustainability goals, which supports the Environment category assessment; paid charity volunteering leave that supports its Community credentials; and ongoing excellent client service levels to support B-Corp’s appraisal of the firm’s Customer category. Tyler Grange enjoys lots of referrals and repeat business and shares its own-brewed beers with its very loyal customer base.

The company now joins an international community of over 5,000 businesses worldwide – including 1000 in the UK – that meet such stringent social and environmental performance criteria.

The certification was led by Tyler Grange Quality and Data Manager Kay Geoghegan.

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, says “We are delighted to welcome Tyler Grange to the B-Corp community. This is a movement of companies that are committed to changing how business operates and believe business really can be a force for good. We know that Tyler Grange is going to be a fantastic addition to the community and will continue driving the conversation forward.

“We are pleased to have B-Corporations of all shapes and sizes as part of our community – from start-ups to multinationals and across many different industries. Business is a powerful force and B Corps demonstrate that you can do good in any sector. Welcoming Tyler Grange is an exciting moment because they have an opportunity to lead the way within the environmental consultancy industry. We and the rest of the B-Corp community are really pleased to support Tyler Grange in paving the way for a new way of doing things.”

Tyler Grange Director Jon Berry said: “We began our B-Corp application process ten months ago, so we’re delighted to cross the finishing line with such an encouraging score – and first time. We were well placed to do so as we were already doing a lot of what was required to become certified, although we recognise that this is just the beginning of our B-Corp journey.

“We always strive to show our commitment to our people, our clients, the communities in which we work and the planet – and what better way to do this than by achieving B-Corp certification? We’re proud to be joining the community and wider network of like-minded, for-profit organisations that want to enjoy commercial success as well as to drive positive social change.

“We pride ourselves on our innovation and constantly challenge ourselves to do things better and differently. The number of UK B-Corporations has doubled in the last year, which is a clear sign that the community is rapidly expanding as more and more businesses dedicate themselves to doing good. We really hope that we can now inspire and encourage others to join us.

“Whether we’re working a four-day week, brewing our own beer or giving back to causes close to our hearts through our charity work, they’re strengthening their impact on our business, communities, and the world. And that really does feel great.”
