Manchester Teen Busker ALEX SPENCER’s New EP!

Alex Spencer has gone from turning heads while busking on the streets of Manchester to forging a career as one of the most exciting UK indie talents, despite being just seventeen years old. Tracks across his current discography have been met with widespread acclaim, earning plaudits from BBC 6 Music, XS Manchester and BBC Introducing, and is currently fresh off a live session with John Kennedy on Radio X.

Since Signing with indie label Modern Sky UK (Red Rum Club, The Lottery Winners, The Lathums), Alex’s unique talent and incredible personal story caught the attention of the national press as his music was broadcast to the world via BBC News’ TikTok, TNT Sports, ITV’s Granada reports and The Premier League’s Global show & becoming the first musician to ever perform live on Sky Sports News. His live reputation now firmly cemented, Alex’s summer sees him grace the stages of Robins Park, supporting two of his idols The Lathums and Jake Bugg on 19th July and Jamie Webster at Sefton Park on 12th July. With all this backing Alex Spencer now unveils his new EP There’s Gotta Be More.

Alex embarks on a journey of self-discovery with his most ambitious and most anticipated work to date, his energetic, pop-tinged rock energy and rose-tinted, teenage nostalgia immediately seeping into project opener ‘Love And Let Go’. Next up comes ‘Nightmares’, with glittered melodies soaring from his electric guitar, whilst fast-paced drums contrast a steady, floating vocal as it glides above the fierce instrumentation below.

Title track, ‘There’s Gotta Be More’, is third of four, the plucky instrumentation giving way to a bouncy, optimistic view of a world that feels like it’s crashing down around him. Finally ‘Fear Will Kill The Future’ takes hold, the boundless optimism shown so far coming to a boiling point of passion for progress, the core theme of the EP truly unveiled. Life has lots to give, but you may have to search for it.

“My latest release contrasts childhood innocence with adult realities,” Alex adds. ”Based on personal experiences, the raw and introspective writing evokes nostalgia and reflection. The project aims to connect deeply with listeners, highlighting life’s complexities and the search for meaning.”

Combining infectious guitar lines with his street-savvy voice and coming-of-age tales of youthful exuberance, Alex’s rousing debut EP ‘One Step Forward’ and his soon-to-be-released second outing, which were both written & recorded when Alex was still at school, reflect a maturity and natural songwriting ability far beyond his years.

Following on from his busking roots, Alex has become renowned for his captivating live performances & has gone on to support the likes of Jamie Webster, Miles Kane, Louis Dunford, Seb Lowe and The Royston Club as well as headlining and selling both of his home city venues, The Deaf Institute & Manchester Academy 3. Alex’s momentum is refusing to let up & 2024 promises even bigger live shows and new music.
