Manchester crowned top 5 takeaway capital of the UK
Manchester has been crowned one of the top cities in the UK for takeaways, according to the savings platform Raisin UK. The North-western powerhouse, whose favorite takeaway is Chinese, ranks highly across the board when looking at a number of different metrics including the number of different takeaway options available across numerous delivery platforms when compared to the population size, and the percentage of the average disposable income of the region that goes on takeaway treats.
Manchester achieved an amazing total index score of 76.7 out of 100, falling closely behind Brighton who in fourth position has a score of 77.3. In total, the city has 5,629 different takeaway options, which works at 99.22 locations per 10,000 people. This is the 16th highest of all UK cities analsyed. However there is a huge number of takeaways per square mile within the city, at 148 locations, the 8th most densely packed location across the UK.
The city has a total of 671 options on UberEats, working out at 11.83 choices per 10,000 people, but has a very high number of Just Eat deliveries, at almost 36 choices per 10,000 people, the 3rd highest across all UK cities. Deliveroo comes in slightly lower with 21 choices per 10,000, coming in 8th.
On average Manchester residents are spending 3.45% of their disposable income on takeaways, which is slightly below average when compared to other cities.
