Manchester Crowned Third Biggest ‘Sun Trap’ City in the UK
A new study by the team at Betway provides the ultimate sun-seekers travel guide by revealing the best spots for guaranteed sun, with Manchester being crowned the third biggest ‘sun trap’ in the UK.
Taking a seedlist of some of the most populated cities around the world, the team ranked them on their sunshine credentials to discover which are the best spots to catch some rays.
The team considered various factors when ranking each city, such as the average number of daylight hours in the year, which month of the year has the most sun, average annual temperature, the number of beaches/distance to the nearest beach, average annual rainfall and how windy the area is (km/h).
Although the weather in the UK is famously unpredictable, the report reveals that London takes the top spot as the biggest ‘sun trap’ city in the UK, achieving an overall score of 44.6/70.
Manchester follows close behind the English capital as the third biggest ‘sun trap’ city in the UK, with an overall score of 29.6/70.
The report found that Manchester, unsurprisingly, lives up to its ‘rainy city’ nickname as it has the sixth highest amount of rainfall annually in the UK, with an average amount of 1,047mm of rain per year.
Manchester also didn’t rank very highly for average annual temperature, sitting in 19th place with an average temperature of 9.4°C but ranked slightly higher for number of sunshine hours, with an average day length of 11:12, claiming 11th place overall in the UK.
However, the report did discover that Manchester comes out on top as the calmest city in the UK as the city experiences the least amount of wind. Averaging a wind speed of 15.8km/h, it’s a perfect staycation spot to comfortably explore the city’s history and culture.
