Manchester City Council breaks through into Top 100 UK companies

Manchester City Council has been named one of the best organisations to work for in 2020 by national newspaper, The Sunday Times.

Last week (February 19) it was revealed which companies had made it on to this year’s Sunday Times Best 100 Best Not-For-Profit Organisations to Work For.

Entering the top 100 for the first time ever at rank 98, the award was accepted by members of the Council’s senior management team including Chief Executive Joanne Roney and Executive Member for Finance and Human Resources Cllr Carl Ollerhead.

A rare accolade for local authorities, Manchester City Council is the only authority to be featured on this year’s list.

The Council is crucial to shaping the lives of thousands of people who live in the city, and it is testament to the dedication of every single employee that the Council has been recognised in this way. This accolade marks a high point for the organisation which has striven to become a world-leading local authority, with the annual B-Heard survey of thousands of council employees having shown consistent year on year improvement across the Council.

Joanne Roney, OBE, Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and I would like to thank every single member of staff who has made this possible. We are constantly improving how we work as a council so that we can make positive changes for the lives of our residents, as well as our employees.

“We are so pleased to be included in this prestigious list and to be recognised as a strong organisation. We will continue to listen to our staff to ensure that Manchester – the City and the Council – is a place where everyone can be everything they want to be”
