Manchester charities boosted by Amazon donation
Three charities based in Manchester have received donations from Amazon totalling £15,000.
North Manchester Community Partnership, Migrant Support and Moss Side Millennium Powerhouse each received £5,000 following nominations of support from employees at Amazon’s head office in London.
North Manchester Community Partnership is a partnership between seven community-based organisations in north Manchester. The charity works to support individuals in impoverished and deprived areas and provides training to help them gain employment. The charity also runs a number of outreach sessions including a benefits advice service, work club activities and digital skills training.
Migrant Support helps migrants including refugees and asylum seekers living in Manchester. The charity offers support through several projects which include employability support, an IT and job club, arts and crafts and well-being activities such as football sessions and walking clubs. The charity also runs a media project, Migrant Echoes, aiming to encourage people from migrant backgrounds to share their experiences and develop a community and MiZest Vegan Café to support people to gain experience in the catering industry.
Moss Side Millennium Powerhouse supports young people, families and community groups across central Manchester by offering several support services. These include mental health support, holiday playschemes, junior and senior youth clubs, careers advice and guidance and specialist programmes for those ages 16-19 not in education, employment or training. The charity’s Youth Hub contains a range of facilities available for young people to use including a sports hall, dance studio, music studio and meeting rooms acting as a space to find comfort.
Speaking on the donations, Andrea Ravnik, Amazon in the Community UK lead at Amazon, said:
“These charities do fantastic work for the Manchester community, and we’re pleased to support their efforts. I hope the donations help the staff and volunteers at all three organisations continue to provide their services and raise awareness of their important work.”
Lisa Davenport, Head of Centre at Moss Side Millennium Powerhouse added,
“We’d like to thank Amazon for this donation and their support. We’re pleased to be able to make a difference within the Manchester community and donations like allow us to continue to make an impact.”
The charities received the donations as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities around its operating locations across the UK.
