Maldron Hotel Manchester City Centre appoints a Deputy General Manager
Maldron Hotel Manchester City Centre has appointed a Deputy General Manager who is steeped in the hospitality industry after growing up in his parents’ hotel. Mark Smith is delighted to join the new four-star hotel which opened earlier this year in the heart of the city and just opposite the new Circle Square development off Oxford Road.
The Maldron Hotel Manchester City Centre, operated by Dalata Hotel Group Plc, features 278 modern bedrooms, a fitness suite and meeting spaces. The hotel is also the location of the Grain & Grill Restaurant and Red Bean Roastery coffee shop.
Mark joins the new hotel with three years’ experience within Dalata, having previously worked as Operations Manager at Clayton Manchester Airport.
He said his appointment “has been made possible by Dalata’s culture to promote from within and develop its people”.
Mark said: “Through Dalata’s training programme I’ve gained a deeper understanding of my role as a manger and different ways in which I could adapt my management style to achieve the best results, for myself and the team.
“I am incredibly proud to be Deputy General Manager in this beautiful hotel. It is a really exciting time to be part of the opening of a new hotel in Manchester.”
Mark grew up in the hospitality industry in Blackpool, where his parents owned and operated hotel. “I was very familiar with hospitality from a young age, and it just continued as I grew older became more involved in the work.
“There is no typical day in hospitality, everyday is always very different for me. I have a very hands-on approach, whether that is helping in breakfast, or reception at peak times or spot-checking rooms – anything to support the team to maintain our high standards.
“My favourite part of working in hospitality is the people. I love engaging with guests and suggesting great places to visit in the city as well as having a laugh with my colleagues and ensuring the team is happy”.
The new hotel is just a four-minute walk from Oxford Road train station and Piccadilly train station is just a nine-minute stroll. Guests can reach Manchester Airport in 25 minutes by car or taxi.
From the hotel, guests can enjoy easy access to Manchester’s thriving entertainment venues such as Bridgewater Hall, AO Arena, Palace Theatre, Manchester Opera House and the Manchester Central Convention Complex.
The hotel is within walking distance of The Gay Village centred around the vibrant Canal Street, with many more pubs and bars within the area too.
The main shopping areas including Market Street, Arndale Centre and The Royal Exchange are within a 15-minute walk from the hotel. The Trafford Centre is a 20-minute drive away or you can hop on a tram from the nearby St Peter’s Square Metrolink stop.
