Logitech for Creators & Blue Microphones launch talent search to find the UK’s next online streaming sensation
Millions of Brits want to give up their day jobs to become online stars. With more than half of the nation agreeing that creating content online can lead to a successful career, Logitech for Creators has launched its £30,000 Up Next fund to offer one burgeoning creator talent the opportunity to focus on their content for a whole year. Logitech For Creators is a brand extension of Logitech that exists to empower all creators to pursue their passions.
Research from Logitech for Creators UK reveals online streaming is a hugely popular career option for the younger generation. Almost two-thirds (60 per cent) of 18–24-year-olds surveyed in the UK said they would give up their current career if they were able to become a successful full-time creator, and 52 per cent of all Londoners would jump at the chance to go full-time online.
Logitech for Creators’ Up Next fund has been launched to support the dreams of one well-deserving creator looking to catch their big break. Not only will the chosen creator receive a one-off fund of £30,000, but they will also have their own personal home creator studio kitted out with the very best tools for content creation – including Blue Microphones and Mevo cameras.
Top reasons for people wanting to give up their job and become an online streamer include being your own boss and controlling your own schedule (45 per cent), while getting creative (41 per cent) and sharing a passion with others (37 per cent) also ranked highly as to why the nation is eager to get online and build an audience.
With so many of us keen to take the plunge and reap the rewards of one of the nation’s newest professions, the question is: can it really be that easy?
Only eight per cent agree making money from being a creator is easy, with 28 per cent claiming they wouldn’t know where to start with creating content, a further 20 per cent claiming they don’t know how to gain followers and up to 26 per cent of the age groups surveyed simply not having the time they need.
Hannah Smith, Marketing Manager – Logitech for Creators UK “Logitech for Creators puts creators at the heart of everything we do. Up Next gives the winning creator the tools to build their career to create high-quality, professional content, creator-to-creator mentorship, and financial support.
“Content creators are shaping culture more than ever and increasingly people have the desire to have their voices and creativity heard. It takes incredible skill and passion to unlock a mass audience. There’s a lot of time, effort and high-tech products that go into finding and developing techniques to cut through the noise – we think this fund is the ideal way to support an aspiring creator.
“It’s important that anyone who wants to make being a content creator a reality – and there are lots of them by the looks of the results – has the right tools to get them started, it will really help them stand out from the crowd if their content is of a high-quality.”
On average in the UK, 18-24-year-olds post 3.4 times a week across multiple channels, with 57 per cent having more than five active accounts and 58 per cent having between 400 and 700 followers.
Facebook is currently the most popular social platform, with 61 per cent of citing it as their favourite, followed by Instagram (39 per cent) and YouTube (37 per cent) – all beating TikTok (16 per cent) which took off during the pandemic.
The research also found the nation’s favourite creators are Dr Alex George (11 per cent), Billie Eilish (11 per cent) and KSI (8 per cent).
