An LGBT+ charity in Manchester has received a £3,000 donation from the Amazon fulfilment centres in Manchester, Bolton and Warrington in celebration of Pride Month.

Pride Month honours the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, which was a turning point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Celebrations now take place in countries all over the world and include parades, parties, workshops, symposia and concerts, attracting millions of participants.

The donation to The Proud Trust was made by the teams in recognition of the charity’s diversity and inclusion focus.

The Proud Trust is an LGBT+ youth charity empowering LGBT+ young people to be proud of who they are. The Proud Trust delivers youth work and one-to-one support across Greater Manchester and Cheshire. The charity also runs a national training and inclusion programme for schools, Proud Connections Live Chat, and manages Manchester’s LGBT+ Centre, The Proud Place.

The donation from the Amazon teams will go towards supporting this valuable work.

Speaking on the donation, Ian Jackson, General Manager of Amazon in Manchester, said:

“At Amazon, we believe it’s important to champion minority groups within the company and the wider community; therefore, it is our pleasure to partner with our fellow teams from the fulfilment centres in Bolton and Warrington to provide The Proud Trust with this donation. The charity is an important support system for our communities, and we are happy to give them the recognition they deserve.”

Susie Cuthill, from The Proud Trust welcomed the donation from Amazon, saying:

“Thank you to the Amazon LGBT+ affinity group and fulfilment centres in Manchester, Bolton and Warrington for thinking of The Proud Trust this pride season. We are delighted to receive this donation which will go towards supporting LGBT+ young people across Greater Manchester. It is fantastic to have supporters at Amazon championing our work.

The Proud Trust received the donation as part of Amazon’s programme to support the communities in and around its operating locations across the UK.

Amazon has 13 affinity groups, also known as employee resource groups. They play an important role in bringing Amazon employees together and create a sense of community globally while encouraging inclusivity and diversity. These groups include Glamazon, the Black Employee Network, Asians@Amazon, People with Disabilities and Women@.

Glamazon helps Amazon employees build a network with other LGBT+ colleagues and allies across the business on a global level. The group promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion, and gives mentorship opportunities to members.

There are over 200 active Glamazon affinity group chapters around the world who work with
Amazon to create an inclusive workplace, host hundreds of community events, and celebrate Pride
annually.

Amazon has also been listed in The Stonewall Top 100 Employers list, the UK’s leading benchmarking tool for LGBT+ inclusion in the workplace.
