Leicester Square Christmas Market in London has been revealed as the most expensive festive market to park near this December, followed by Winter Wonderland, Edinburgh Christmas Market and York St Nicholas Fair.

With 3.4M Google searches for ‘Christmas market’ in the UK in the past month alone, new research shows that festive-goers may find themselves paying more for parking than the market treats themselves.

A study commissioned by WDW Bingo analysed the average cost for an 8-hour stay with a ten-minute walk from each Christmas market, based on data from QPark and JustPark.

The most expensive Christmas markets for parking

Parking at this year’s Christmas markets could cost you more in parking than your mulled wine and bratwursts combined.

With new attractions such as an ice-skating rink wrapping around the Shakespeare statue, it’s no surprise that demand to visit Leicester Square Christmas Market has led parking prices to spike. The festive favourite tops the list as the UK’s most expensive market to park near, with an average cost of £56.55 for eight hours, while another London market, Winter Wonderland, comes in second place at £52.

Edinburgh Christmas Market is the most expensive outside of London and lands in third place with an eye-watering average cost of £28.10. Due to limited space in a historic city centre, parking for York’s St Nicholas Fair comes at a serious premium, with it landing in fourth place at an average of £26.10. As one of the largest and oldest markets in the UK, Manchester Christmas Market finishes off the top five at £25.45.

Meanwhile, markets such as Bristol and Cardiff have the lowest costs for parking, at £12.67 and £13 respectively.
