Leading Celebrity Surgeon Hopes To End The Stigma Around Hair Loss Treatment For Everyone
Dr Matee, a leading surgical director, KSL Clinic, has recorded record demand for hair restorative treatments following the Covid-19 pandemic. While some causes of hair loss can be genetic – issues may be worsened or also triggered by hormones, stress and diet.
Anxiety around the way we look is something we all deal with in our lives, hair or no hair. Most humans have insecurities regarding something about their appearance, especially given the way the media portrays beauty standards, for both men and women. Adjusting to a new appearance can be challenging, and you might wish to seek advice around a hair transplant.
With clinics in London, Manchester, Kent, Newcastle and Cardiff, Dr Matee has seen an increase of 30% in patients looking for restorative treatments, all struggling with substantial hair loss due to the physical and psychological effects of the pandemic, as well as other social concerns which may be a cause of anxiety.
Hair loss can affect people from all walks of life. Dr Matee said: “There has always been a stigma around hair loss, particularly for men. While it is important everyone should feel good about themselves, sometimes, losing hair often takes away that confidence.
I have treated actors, celebrities and sportsmen who felt hair loss impacted their careers, to the point that some felt they were not getting acting roles due to their hair loss.”
A specialist in male and female, straight and curly (afro) hair transplants, Dr Matee is one of the leading hair transplant surgeons in the UK. He qualified as a Medical Doctor in 2009 from King’s College London and began his early surgical experience with medical electives at Harvard Medical School and the Trauma Centre in Dubai.
Dr Matee is also a keen philanthropist, and has been committed to charity work in the UK and internationally for more than fifteen years. He helped found SAMR Trust, a UK-based charity working to improve the health and socio-economic conditions of the poor and needy.
As a way of saying ‘thank you’ to all of the incredible individuals who have helped to better British society, Dr Matee has also launched its ‘Hair For Heroes’ campaign. This shall provide FREE or substantially reduced price hair restoration treatment (including hair transplantation if appropriate) to individuals nominated by the public.
Nominees can include people such as acid attack victims, teachers, NHS staff, armed servicemen, police officers, youth and social workers, religious leaders and volunteer workers.
Passionate about his craft, he is keen to demystify the procedures, saying:
“Hair transplants are surgical procedures which are done under local anaesthetic. Hair is taken from the back of the head (the ‘donor’ area) and transplanted to the scalp, beard or eyebrows. They are popular routine procedures, done in a single day allowing a quick recovery.
Generally speaking, anyone can be suitable for a transplant if there is hair loss. Each patient is assessed individually to determine the need, suitability and likelihood of success before I operate on them.”
With over 10 years’ experience in all types of male and female hair loss treatment and hair transplant surgery, Dr Matee was staggered with the increase in demand for treatments following a series of gruelling UK lockdowns and patients suffering the effects of long Covid.
On average, a normal person will lose small amounts of hair as it replenishes itself, shedding between 50 and 100 hairs per day.
Dr Matee is a surgical director at KSL Clinics. He invented the minimally invasive MinSim FUE™ Technique which has become a favourite with his long list of celebrity hair transplant patients including high profile footballers and reality tv stars.
Having founded the British Hair Clinic, Dr Matee has operated for numerous well-known clinics across the UK and is fully registered with the General Medical Council.
